Captioned Performances

Live captioning assists people who are D/deaf or hard of hearing who benefit from reading the dialogue alongside the action. You can find information about captioned performances on individual pages for shows.

We caption our performances with Stage Text. The best seats for captioned performances will be highlighted and can be booked online by selecting these nominated seats at checkout.

If no seats are highlighted, captions will be best viewed from all seats.

Entrances

The auditorium has two entrances. The downstairs entrance is level with row A. The upstairs entrance is level with row J.

Row A is step free via the downstairs entrance. Row J is step free if you use the lift. Without the lift, there are 22 steps up to the upstairs entrance.

Either entrance can be used to reach any seat in the theatre. There are 18 steps between the top and bottom of the auditorium.

Access to the balconies is not step free. From the upstairs entrance there is one step up to the upper balcony and two steps down to the lower balconies, with a further step down every four seats.

Access to the slips is not step free. There are 14 steps up to the slips.

Seats

Most seats in the stalls have around 30cm of leg room. Row G has 34cm and row I has 37cm.

Seats in the stalls are between 40cm and 50cm wide. Some are larger. F1 and F16 are 57cm wide. D1, D2, D14 and D15 are 65cm wide. These seats are marked on our seating map as having a bit more room.

The balconies have flip up seats. Once lowered, they have 20cm of leg room.

Seats in the balconies have armrests.

Wheelchairs

There are four wheelchair spaces. Two in row A and two in row J.

In row A the seats are removable. You can transfer to the seat, or we can remove it to make space for your chair. In row J there is space for a chair only, there is no seat to transfer into. If you would prefer to transfer, book a wheelchair space in row A, where there is a seat you can transfer into or have removed.

Wheelchair space J9 is 90cm wide. Wheelchair space J13 is 80cm wide. Wheelchair spaces A5 and A13 are both 89cm wide when the seat is removed.

Seating

The bar is 115cm from the ground, with a lowered section at 80cm.

There is a mix of seating in the bar.

Large red cushioned seats sit 42cm from the ground. Some have backs, most do not. The backs are 35cm tall and 65cm from the front of the seat.

Black stools are 35cm wide and 45cm from the ground. Blue stools are 35cm wide and 40cm from the ground.

A built in banquette runs along a large part of the bar, with a cushioned leather seat and a hard back. The seat is 35cm from back to front.

Opposite the banquette are hard red chairs with backs, 44cm wide.

ASSISTANT DOGS

Assistant dogs are welcome in the auditorium and bar, but not on a seat. If you’re bringing one, book your ticket through the box office: email boxoffice@theyardtheatre.co.uk or call 020 3606 0164.

Our team can also look after your dog during a performance.
