Julie Rose Bower is bringing her show The Foley Explosion to The Yard Theatre as part of NOW 17 festival. To accompany the show she is offering THE FOLEY EXPLOSION WORKSHOP, an examination into storytelling through spoken word and live sound effects.

Using techniques from her show, participants will experiment with Foley, live audio looping, microphones, contact microphone and hydrophones.

“A storyteller stands before a microphone and sparks a lighter. A looped sound effect is passed from reality to fiction and back again. In this Foley audio performance, everyday sounds take on extraordinary lives. Fragments of sound build into imaginative worlds in a live album of theatrical tracks. They lay expectations of how to interpret the sensual world and are then transformed into a set of dreamlike narratives. Playing with memory and interrogating personal impressions, The Foley Explosion explores how we process the noise of the world around us.”
