Open submissions for The Yard’s first collection of 2014

Hello everyone,

The Edinburgh Fringe Festival was wonderful, wasn’t it?

But now that it’s over for another year, we’re turning the spotlight back to the capital with a bit of excitement of our very own. And this time, it’s happening right on your doorstep.

The Yard is hugely excited to announce that submissions are open for our first collection of 2014…

N.O.W ’14

… and we want your ideas!

This is your chance to develop your work at The Yard.

We don’t mind who you are, what experience you have, or how you choose to respond to our call-out. We just want to be surprised by your ideas.

Find out everything you need to know about submitting right here.

If you’re thinking of working with us, we really recommend coming down to see our space, meet our team, get a feel for the things we do and the ways we do them. And the best way to do just that is to come along to one of our upcoming shows…

Class of ’13

Class of ’13 is a collection of the emerging artists and companies who have impressed, inspired and excited us most in 2013. We will be presenting their work in our first curated collection between 10 September and 16 November.

Your love keeps us warm (literally!)…

We did it!

The Yard is delighted to announce that we have reached our crowd-funding target for the installment of insulation in our theatre and bar. This means we can remain open throughout the winter months and share more new writing and performance with audiences all year round!

We would like to say an enormous thank you to all those who donated, whether it was one pound or thousands. Your contribution made it possible for us to reach our target, and ensures the longevity of our theatre.

In the space of just four months, 44 wonderful people pledged online, as well as many audience members donating their hard earned cash in person, to raise a staggering £10,482.

Since then things have moved quickly and last week saw the instalment of the insulation we so desperately needed.

Built from recycled and reclaimed materials, we do everything we can to always be as environmentally friendly as possible. Contrary to what we were initially told, following reassessments of fire regulations and environmental factors in the building, we were told we would be unable to use our first choice of material, sheep wool insulation. The alternative which we are using is spray foam insulation which is will provide us with top notch heat retainment and retain the original corrugated aesthetic, which also provides us with gorgeous acoustics, keeping true to the building’s Victorian origins.

Whilst we were hoping for sheep wool, we have a responsibility to you and our audiences to ensure we use the most effective and long-term solution. We are incredibly excited about the installation of the foam which will ensure the building is fit for use for many many more years to come.

We once again thank all those who donated and those who helped us promote the campaign.

The finished result will be on display when we once again throw open the theatre doors for our forthcoming collection of work, Class of ’13. We warmly invite you all to come and see a show in our much improved (and much less drafty!) auditorium.

With love,

The Yard x

Announcing Class of ’13

Hello everyone,

Here at The Yard we’ve been working hard, putting together a wonderful new collection of shows for our theatre this autumn.

Here it is.

10 September – 16 November 2013

We’ve chosen a selection of the brightest and most brilliant artists we know, and invited them to develop and perform their work here at The Yard. This collection of performances and live experiences will be our first entirely curated festival, and will include shows by Caroline Williams, Alex Zeldin and Write by Numbers to name a few.

There will be old friends and new faces, big names and emerging talent. And they all have one thing in common…they are the great theatre-makers of tomorrow, doing great things today.

This is a chance for us to share the theatre we love with you. And we can’t wait.

We give you… Class of ’13.
